GE APPLIANCE – HOW TO DETERMINE THE AGE OR MANUFACTURE DATE
To determine the age of your GE appliance, use your serial number (not the model number) to identify the date of manufacture. The serial numbers begin with two letters followed by six numbers. The two letters at the beginning of the serial number tell you the month and year it was made. Where is my model and serial number located?
- The first letter identifies the month.
- The second letter identifies the year.
The corresponding letters for months and years are in the chart below. For example, if the serial number begins with the letters “GA,” the appliance was manufactured in April of 2001 or April of 2013.
- The letter that corresponds with the year (2nd letter) rotates approximately every 12 years, so some serial numbers may correspond with different years. For example, a serial number of “AD” could indicate the appliance was manufactured in January of 2002 or January of 2014.
- Since serial numbers may correspond with different years, the owner’s manual can often be used to help pinpoint the date of manufacture. Most owner’s manuals have a date listed on the front page or back page of the manual. This is typically printed next to a publication number on the manual and looks something like 02-20 (February of 2020), 01-21 (January of 2021) or 04/17 (April of 2017). The print date may not exactly match the month and year from your serial number. As long as it is close to the serial number, it will verify that you have determined the correct age. Feel free to check the owner’s manual for the print date.
- If you are still unsure of the year of manufacture after checking the chart below, please GE with your model and serial number for further assistance.
